Company Information
First, check that Carbon Verify covers your activities
Carbon Verify handles the common sources listed in the following stages. Check the whole organisation and every site before choosing an answer.
Other fuels and gases: open the optional entries in Direct emissions for heating oil, generators, biomass or another supported gas actually released. Biomass CO₂ and non-Kyoto gases are disclosed separately where applicable.
Purchased heat or steam: use Other purchased energy if its published supply basis fits. Cooling or a different supply method needs an evidenced supplier or separate emissions figure.
Shared-load freight: use shipment weight and distance, or an allocated carrier emissions report. For storage, unusual processes or travel beyond the built-in choices, add a documented separate emissions figure in Boundaries. Check its reporting dates, method and overlaps first.
Keep a clearly marked draft while investigating. If you have a separate emissions calculation, add it using the documented-figure entry in Coverage, not these notes. Recheck every required source before confirming coverage.
End date must be after start date
This build contains the official 2026 conversion-factor set and is intended for reporting periods ending in 2026.
A short first year or changed year-end needs context. Check that all activity totals cover exactly these dates.

Use the maintenance record: enter gas leaked, or a top-up replacing a leak—not the equipment’s full refrigerant capacity. Ask the service contractor if the record is unclear.
Company Vehicles
Cars and vans your organisation owns or leases. Enter the distance for each. Diesel and petrol vehicles count towards Scope 1. Heavy goods vehicles are handled in the Freight and logistics section below.
Freight and logistics
Heavy goods vehicles. Choose the vehicle and how laden it runs, then enter the distance. Vehicles you own and fuel count under Scope 1. Freight a haulier or courier carries for you counts under Scope 3, so set who runs each one.
Enter vehicle distance allocated to your organisation. Shared consignments or warehouse energy may need another method.

These are average-car travel estimates using the official 2026 factors. The electric-car estimate includes electricity used for the journey: do not count the same charging again in office electricity. Known CNG/LPG cars, motorcycles and vans need a suitable separate calculation; do not put a known unsupported fuel into Unknown. Add a suitable documented result under Coverage, with Scope 3 Category 6, matching dates, source, method, evidence and no overlap. Keep unresolved sources in a review draft.

Purchases: goods and services
Start with a legal, accountancy or IT consultancy service invoice. Carbon Verify chooses the factor for these supported estimates. Other purchases need suitable documented data.
Estimated, not independently verified. These industry-average estimates cover the purchases you enter, not your suppliers’ measured emissions or a complete supply-chain footprint. How these estimates should be used.

Carbon Offsets (Optional)
Only record carbon credits retired or cancelled for your business for this reporting period. Leave this optional section empty if you have none. A purchase, donation or tree count alone is not a retired credit.

Carbon Reduction Plan (PPN 006)
For a PPN 006 CRP, record your organisation's genuinely agreed net-zero target no later than 2050.
tCO₂e
List carbon reduction initiatives already completed or in operation. Include dates and quantified impacts where available.
Detail specific projects with implementation timelines and expected emission reductions. Prioritize actions addressing your largest emission sources.
Describe your approach to offsetting if applicable. Best practice prioritizes absolute emission reductions over offsetting.

Sources and assumptions differ by method. Guided purchase estimates use the selected Defra / University of Leeds 2023 service factor and recorded ONS price adjustment, not a 2026 activity factor or supplier measurement. Unsupported purchases stay unfinished. Custom purchase factors, supplier electricity evidence, activity records, baselines and offsets need their own evidence. The commuting-car value is a Carbon Verify 70% petrol / 30% diesel proxy built from the 2026 average-car factors. Business intensity uses your own gross emissions and is not an industry rating. Unit conversions are not emission datasets. Read each method’s limitations and the Purchases Method sheet before relying on an output.
Other fuels, gases, purchased energy and shipments
These optional forms use pinned rows from the 2026 full factor workbook and the corrected flat edition published on 31 July 2026. Choose the exact activity and unit on your records; the app does not substitute a similar fuel or gas. The Evidence Pack records each selected factor, source sheet/cell and dataset edition.
Heat and steam factors require the published UK CHP supply basis. Shipment factors use your goods' weight × the matching journey distance. Biomass combustion CO₂ and non-Kyoto gases are disclosed separately outside the gross Scope 1–3 total. Upstream fuel-chain emissions are not calculated by these fuel forms.
A supplier or separately calculated emissions figure is recorded in the scope/category you confirm, with its source, method, dates and overlap checks. It is not independently verified and is not converted again using another factor.
Additional disclosure only; qualifying evidence must cover all consumption and dates. Grid result stays in gross totals.

Standards referenced and limits
GHG Protocol: Used for the Scope 1, 2 and 3 classification and organisational-boundary prompts; Carbon Verify does not certify conformity. PPN 006: Used for the CRP structure, specified Scope 3 categories, net-zero commitment, approval and publication checks. The buyer's tender wording remains definitive. UK Government 2026 factors: Appropriate to UK activities ending in the embedded factor year. The government publishes a new set annually; users must choose a factor appropriate to the activity, unit, geography and reporting period. Market electricity, procurement and offsets: These depend on user-supplied evidence and are not validated by Carbon Verify. Other schemes: This workflow is not, by itself, an SECR return, ESOS assessment, ISO certification, third-party verification or the expanded higher-tier NHS 2027 inventory.
Factors are updated annually. Current dataset: UK Government GHG Conversion Factors 2026 (published by DESNZ/DEFRA).
Using Standard CRP
1. Prepare and review your footprint
Standard CRP keeps the inputs to the supported Scope 1 and 2 sources and the five PPN 006 Scope 3 categories. Follow the seven steps, explain any no-activity categories, then review the plan with your management team.
Extended footprint adds selected purchases, water supply, UK hotels, electricity losses and optional intensity or carbon-credit disclosures. It is not a full Scope 3 inventory. The seven-step journey and your responsibility to review the records stay the same.
Organisation and period: Check the active organisation in the project bar, then complete its legal details, reporting dates and what parts of the business you control. Use records for that exact period. Employee count and floor area are optional: they help compare your own business over time, not rate it against other businesses.
Enter activity records: Work through the sources relevant to your business, using the reporting dates and units on your records.
Dynamic Rows: Use Add entry for vehicles, refrigerants, freight and waste. Open Other fuels, Other refrigerants or gases released, Other purchased energy, or Shipment weight and distance only when relevant. In Coverage, use A figure from a supplier or separate calculation for a suitable result not already counted. Goods and purchases adds supported service-spend estimates or an advanced own-factor entry.
Unit Selectors: Pay attention to units (e.g., switching between kilometers and miles for vehicles, or kilograms and tonnes for refrigerants).
Staff Survey: In the Employee Commuting section, use the "Survey" button to generate a template for collecting employee travel data.
Evidence Logging: Open the section’s evidence log or use the entry’s evidence-reference field to record filenames, invoice numbers or calculation references. The app stores references, not attachments. Keep original records separately.
Data Quality Tags: Where shown, mark the activity data as Actual (from invoices/meters) or Estimated (from assumptions) to track data reliability.
Carbon offsets (optional): Record any credits and supporting retirement evidence separately. Gross emissions remain the basis for reduction targets; an offset entry does not establish a net-zero or carbon-neutral claim.
Internal review: Once satisfied with a section's data and evidence, select "Mark reviewed" at the bottom of that card. This records your own review; it is not independent verification.
Plan and approval: Stage 6, Reduction plan, records agreed targets, measures and genuine board or equivalent management approval. Do not confirm approval before it has happened.
Check & download: All document controls are in stage 7. Open Need a draft for review? for a labelled draft preview or draft Word file. A draft is not for submission. The working Evidence Pack is available before final approval once basic numeric and date checks pass; unresolved entries are labelled pending. Resolve the final checks to review and download the CRP in Word or HTML. The separate Carbon Footprint Statement is optional, with its own sign-off; the CRP keeps its required declaration and approval.
2. Saving & Loading Your Work
Auto-save: Your data is saved in this browser as you work and restored when you return on the same browser and device.
Save project file: Use the project bar to download a complete editable .carbonverify file. Save a fresh copy before moving devices or clearing browser data.
Open project: Choose a project file or an older .json backup. Check the organisation and period before replacing the active workspace. Projects are not merged.
New project: Start empty for another organisation. Save the current project file first, continue without a portable copy only if you are sure, or cancel. Data, evidence references, approvals and branding do not carry over; your licence stays on this device.
Compatibility: This build supports the embedded 2026 factor edition. Read legacy-file warnings and compare previously issued figures; unsupported editions are blocked rather than silently replaced.
Note: Browser autosave and downloaded files are separate. Later changes do not update a file already downloaded. Keep original evidence separately.
Step-by-step project guide. Use one active workspace per browser profile, not separate tabs for different clients.
3. Document appearance and handover
Select Appearance in the header to open the current project's document settings in Check & download. Plain, editable documents are the default. You can add an organisation logo, a dark readable accent colour and an optional adviser logo or “Prepared with support from” credit.
Use PNG or JPEG logos up to 500 KB each. Settings belong to this project and are included in its saved file. A support credit does not replace the organisation's approval or imply independent assurance.
Send the reviewed Word/HTML documents as needed. Keep the Evidence Pack, original records and .carbonverify project separately. Changes in Word do not update the project; change figures in Carbon Verify and regenerate. Substantive edits require fresh review and approval.
Adds a row for another vehicle, refrigerant, freight journey or waste type. Optional panels also accept supported other fuels, gases, purchased energy and shipment records; Coverage accepts a suitable documented separate result. You can also add purchases and carbon-credit records.
Survey Tool
Provides an email template for actual travel days and distance by mode during your reporting period.
Info / Guidance

Last statement
Shows when the last Carbon Footprint Statement was generated. Displayed in the header after sign-off.
Download Reports
In Check & download, preview or download a labelled draft, download the working Evidence Pack in Excel, or complete final checks for the CRP in Word or website-ready HTML. A separate signed Carbon Footprint Statement in Word is optional. PDF links in the demo are sample previews, not a native app PDF export.
Residual after credits
A separate memo figure: gross footprint minus recorded credits. It does not prove carbon neutrality or net zero.
5. Data Quality (DQ) Tags
📊 Actual = The activity amount comes from a record, such as a bill, meter reading or travel claim. Its emissions still use factors and are not a direct measurement. 📈 Estimated = The activity amount or calculation uses assumptions, averages or a model. Record how you worked it out and any gaps. An estimate is not automatically suitable for every buyer or reporting requirement.
6. Official Guidelines & References
These sources explain the requirements and calculation methods. Using the app does not by itself establish compliance or independent assurance:
Carbon-footprint activity data, evidence references and generated documents are processed and stored in this browser; Carbon Verify does not upload them to its own database. Licence activation and periodic validity checks send the licence key and a random device activation identifier to Lemon Squeezy, without your emissions data. Checkout is also hosted by Lemon Squeezy. Save project file creates a separate .carbonverify snapshot. Use Open project to resume from it; older JSON backups remain supported subject to compatibility checks. Keep original bills separately. See the Privacy Notice for details.
Fictional example
Fictional example data illustrates selected business activities, evidence references, internal reviews and plan details. It is not a complete inventory for every kind of business. Use the guided demo to choose an example company and explore its reporting scope.
You can now:
Explore the seven stages using locked fictional figures
Review the required sections for the selected reporting scope to experience the internal-review workflow
Review the Scope 3 category assessment with exclusion justifications
Open matching sample CRPs in Word or HTML and review the example Evidence Pack in Excel
Expand Optional Carbon Footprint Statement only if you want to see that separate sample
Switch to Extended footprint to see its additional example inputs and documents
Use the licensed app, not the demo, to enter your own data and save an editable project
Examples are kept separate from paid projects. Use New project in the licensed app to start empty; save your current project first. The guided demo keeps its fictional inputs locked.
