Carbon Verify Terms of Use

Last updated: 8 October 2026

These terms apply to the Carbon Verify website and browser-based calculator, provided by Jesse Seaward, trading as Carbon Verify. By using a paid Carbon Verify licence, you agree to these terms. If you purchase through Lemon Squeezy, its checkout terms also apply to payment and billing.

The service

Carbon Verify is a self-assessment and document-preparation tool. It calculates greenhouse-gas estimates from information supplied by the user and helps prepare a Carbon Reduction Plan and working Evidence Pack. A separate Carbon Footprint Statement is optional, with its own sign-off; it does not replace the declaration and management approval within the CRP.

Not independent verification or professional advice

Carbon Verify does not audit source evidence, independently verify emissions, approve a tender response or guarantee that a buyer will accept a document. It is not legal, financial, procurement or environmental-consultancy advice. The reporting organisation remains responsible for its boundary, source records, purchase classifications, declarations, actual management approval and the requirements of each tender. Carbon Verify selects and records factors for its supported guided calculations; these responsibilities do not require users to invent factors or remove Carbon Verify's responsibility for the software it supplies.

Standard CRP and optional Extended footprint

Carbon Verify opens in Standard CRP, focused on Scope 1, Scope 2 and the five PPN 006 Scope 3 categories: 4, 5, 6, 7 and 9. Relevant supported other fuels, released gases, suitable purchased heat or steam, shipment weight-and-distance estimates and documented separate emissions figures for those scopes and categories remain available in Standard. Purchases estimates, other Scope 3 category figures and selected wider disclosures require optional Extended footprint under the same licence. Switching to Standard preserves Extended-only entries but excludes them from its active totals and reports; relevant Standard entries remain active. A change in reporting coverage requires renewed review of baseline comparability and affected approvals; the software does not silently rewrite the organisation's actual baseline or targets. Neither mode is a universal emissions calculator.

Other sources and separately calculated figures

The additional-source panels use the embedded 2026 factors only for the exact supported activity and unit. Fuel quantities represent consumption; gas quantities represent actual releases. Biomass CO₂ and non-Kyoto gas components are disclosed separately, not silently included in the main gross total. The built-in purchased heat/steam method is a UK CHP average, suitable only where that supply basis fits; it is not a universal heat or cooling factor. Shipment estimates require the weight of your goods, matching transport mode and distance, not a parcel count or delivery charge. Check that the same activity is not already counted through fuel, vehicle mileage or another source.

A supplier or separate gross-emissions result needs its units, scope/category, exact reporting period, included activities, source, method, evidence reference, matching boundary and confirmation against double counting. Choose kg CO₂e or t CO₂e to match the supplied result; one tonne is 1,000 kg. Do not enter an activity quantity or a figure after carbon credits. Carbon Verify checks the required information, not the validity of the supplied calculation or its underlying evidence. A documented result can contribute to the selected scope; entering it does not establish full category coverage, independent verification or buyer acceptance. Missing or unfinished sources remain unresolved, not zero. Keep original records separately and seek appropriate review where the method, allocation or coverage is uncertain. See the coverage and separate-figure guide.

Drafts, checks and final documents

Use Reduction plan to record agreed targets, measures and genuine board or equivalent management approval. All document controls are in Check & download. A clearly labelled draft CRP can be previewed or downloaded before final approval; it is not for submission. The working Evidence Pack is available before final approval once basic numeric and date checks pass; unresolved entries are labelled pending. Final CRP generation requires the relevant source, coverage, baseline, target, internal-review and management-approval checks to pass. The optional Carbon Footprint Statement has separate entry, coverage, review and sign-off checks; planning information appears only when the complete plan checks pass. Read every output before using it.

How guided purchases estimates work

The guided route currently supports separately billed legal services, accountancy, bookkeeping and tax advice, and IT consultancy or bespoke software development services. Enter the service fees in pounds sterling excluding VAT, confirm that they belong in the chosen reporting period and do not include hardware, software licences, capital assets, disbursements, bundled purchases or costs already counted elsewhere. A supplier's business sector alone does not establish what you bought. Mixed or unsupported purchases need to be separated or assessed using another suitable method.

Carbon Verify estimates these emissions using the published Defra industry-average spending multipliers for 2023, released in 2026, and documented ONS service-price indices where available for the selected period. The factors describe a UK consumption mix, including imports; they are not measurements of your particular supplier or invoice. The price adjustment brings spending onto the factor's 2023 price basis. It does not measure subsequent changes in technology, energy use or a supplier's environmental performance. Legal and accountancy services use a combined legal-and-accounting price index as a disclosed approximation.

If you enter a total for the reporting period, the calculation assumes that spending was spread evenly across that period when weighting the available quarterly price indices. Where you know the spending quarter, select that quarter instead. Provisional indices are identified as such. If an appropriate embedded price index is unavailable for any part of the selected period, the guided record stays pending: Carbon Verify does not carry the last known index forward or treat that purchase as zero emissions.

These are screening-level estimates, not supplier-specific measurements, independent verification, a product life-cycle assessment or proof that all purchased goods, services or Scope 3 categories have been covered. The calculation records the source, price basis and assumptions for review. Do not use it alone to claim that a particular supplier or purchase is low carbon, carbon neutral or independently certified. A change in spending or prices can change the estimate without an equivalent physical emissions reduction.

The advanced own-factor route requires a suitable documented factor for each purchase record, including its source, units, data year, geography and price/VAT basis. Carbon Verify does not automatically convert currencies or adjust custom factors for inflation. Supplier-specific calculations or unsupported arrangements may need a separate calculation or professional review.

Purchased goods and services are additional to the five Scope 3 categories required by the standard PPN 006 Carbon Reduction Plan route. A buyer or another reporting scheme can require wider coverage. Neither adding purchases nor completing Carbon Verify's checks guarantees compliance with a particular tender or the acceptance of your documents.

Subscriptions, renewal and cancellation

Advertised subscription prices exclude VAT. VAT is added at checkout where applicable. Lemon Squeezy calculates the applicable tax and shows the total before you pay.

Paid plans are annual subscriptions and renew automatically at the price and date shown at checkout or in the renewal notice unless cancelled beforehand. Lemon Squeezy's customer portal and order emails provide the online cancellation mechanism. Cancellation stops future renewal and normally leaves access active until the end of the paid period.

Refunds and statutory rights

Refund and cancellation requests are handled through Lemon Squeezy and Carbon Verify support. Nothing in these terms limits rights that cannot lawfully be excluded, including applicable UK consumer rights. Business customers may have different statutory rights from consumers.

Your responsibilities

Availability and updates

The service may be updated to correct factors, legislation references, security issues and compatibility problems. Reasonable efforts are made to keep the service available, but uninterrupted operation is not guaranteed. Users should regenerate annual reports using the appropriate year's released factors.

Liability

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability or statutory right that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited. The reporting limitations above do not remove Carbon Verify's responsibility to supply its software and service in accordance with applicable legal obligations.

Subject to those obligations, Carbon Verify is not responsible to the extent that a loss is caused by inaccurate information supplied by a user, an unsupported assumption or classification contrary to the guidance, a user's alterations to an output, or use outside the tool's stated purpose, rather than by a fault in the software or service. Buyer decisions and tender requirements remain outside Carbon Verify's control. These terms do not make a user responsible for a software defect merely because they reviewed or approved an output.

If you identify a possible calculation, mapping or output error, contact Carbon Verify support before relying on or reissuing the affected document. Keep the project file and underlying records so the issue can be investigated; this request does not restrict your statutory remedies.

Intellectual property

Carbon Verify and its application code, branding and original content remain the property of their respective owner. Users retain ownership of their entered information and generated organisation-specific documents.

Ending access

Access may be suspended for licence abuse, unlawful use or material breach of these terms. Legitimate exported files remain with the user.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, without removing any mandatory rights a consumer has under the law that applies to them.
