One annual job, made manageable

Start with the records you already have.

You do not need to know the reporting language before you begin. Carbon Verify explains each decision where it appears.

Entity, group, financial year and energy use.

02

Bring the records together

What is Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting?

SECR is a UK reporting requirement for certain companies and limited liability partnerships. It puts annual energy use, related greenhouse-gas emissions and energy-efficiency information alongside the organisation's financial reporting.

Read the current government guidance
01

It is an annual disclosure

It is normally prepared alongside the annual accounts, not submitted as a separate SECR return.

02

The reporting position comes first

Entity type, group treatment, size history and the 40,000 kWh route can all affect what is required.

03

The figures need a trail

Energy totals, emissions factors, estimates and exclusions should remain understandable after the statement is drafted.

04

The final judgement stays with you

Carbon Verify assembles a draft for director, member, accountant or auditor review. It does not provide assurance.

The standalone reporting workspace

More useful than a blank template.

Free templates start after the difficult work is done. Carbon Verify is designed to take you from ordinary source records to a joined-up draft, while keeping every gap and judgement visible.

  • ✓ Current and previous-year energy and emissions
  • ✓ A consistent intensity ratio with its calculation
  • ✓ Methodology, estimates and exclusions kept with the numbers
  • ✓ Word disclosure and Excel calculation record

The workspace supports

Unquoted UK companies and LLPs

Including a guided parent and subsidiary route, current rules snapshot and the low-energy disclosure question.

Kept outside this version

Quoted-company reporting

Quoted companies have broader global requirements. The checker identifies them without pretending this workflow is suitable.

Always kept visible

Professional judgement

Uncertain boundaries, exemptions and group cases are marked for review instead of being turned into a confident answer.

Useful boundaries

Before you begin.

Does Carbon Verify decide whether we legally have to report?

No. The checker gives an indicative result from the answers provided, explains the basis and flags cases that need confirmation.

Does it file anything at Companies House?

No. It prepares draft wording and a supporting calculation record for review and inclusion in the appropriate annual reporting process.

Does the workspace rely on the Carbon Verify CRP tool?

No. SECR is a standalone product with its own subscription. Download a .cvw backup to reopen your SECR workspace. The CRP tool uses separate .carbonverify project files; the two are not interchangeable. For organisation footprints and Carbon Reduction Plans, Carbon Verify’s CRP tool offers separate projects and editable documents with optional branding.

Where is business data stored?

The workspace is local-first. Working records are saved in the current browser and are not sent to Carbon Verify. Download a portable backup before changing device or clearing browser data.

How does the annual licence work?

After purchase, Lemon Squeezy emails your licence key. Enter that key and the purchase email in the app to unlock this browser. The subscription renews annually and can be managed or cancelled through the Lemon Squeezy customer portal.
